Agilis Energy

jhirl-pix1Agilis was formed in 2003 by Joseph Hirl to provide energy commodity and risk management solutions for companies and investors focused on emerging opportunities in the competitive US and international energy markets. Over this period, Agilis has consulted to a broad range of companies ranging from early stage technology and hedge funds to Fortune 100 companies and investment banks in the United States, Mexico, Australia and Europe. At the request of management and investors, Agilis has developed expansion-based business plans, energy plant feasibility studies, restructuring plans, capital raise initiatives and advanced risk quantification solutions across the fields of electricity, natural gas, emissions, biogas and biofuels. Depending on the clients needs, Agilis has worked at arm’s length or as a close partner to senior management being involved in the day-to-day management of the business.

Agilis provides unique entrepreneurial and opportunity identification and quantification capabilities that are practical and experience-based drawing on the more than twenty years that Joseph Hirl has spent in the fields of energy trading and marketing, financial risk management, power plant operations and maintenance and international business development. His understanding of the complexities of business creation, foreign environments and commodity risks originates from his senior management experience in successfully starting and managing four separate energy marketing, trading and structured products businesses in the highly competitive and deregulated energy markets of the United States, Scandinavia, Australia and Japan.

Agilis Energy provides a systems based approach to energy management in order to achieve optimal energy and cost reduction results. Agilis Energy’s vision is to create material and long lasting energy savings for end customers across operations, power contracting/tariffs and return-driven upgrades and retrofits. It all starts with the data, 15/30 minute data from installed smart meters. The IDR (interval data recorder) data over a period of 365 days provides one with a “picture” of the operations much like a MRI produces a “picture” of the health of a patient. The “picture” identifies the discipline or lack thereof that is  being exercised in the day to day operation of a facility.

The technology is applicable to all energy consuming facilities that have a profile. Agilis Energy has evaluated commercial office buildings (75 to date), schools, multifamily, MUDs (municipal utility districts), hospitals, churches and department stores. The patent pending technology takes the trial and error out of determining inefficiencies in the systems. The data does not lie.

Joseph Hirl earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Electricial Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard University. He has also received graduate level training in Nuclear Engineering and Operations and is certfied as a Nuclear Engineer by the US Department of Naval Reactors.
